hoist the colours

Flora is a social whirwind these days and has two more birthday parties this week- this time both for boys so I was a bit stuck for something to make. In the end I decided to make aome boys' versions of the crayon roll that I made before.

There isn't a great deal of choice as far as fabric shops go near me, but I was really pleased to find the 'Jolly Roger' fabric, which I think really transformed this make from quite a girly gift to one for the boys.

I was also particularly pleased with my idea to combine the blue stars with the red and white stripey fabric- I think they look really great together, if I do say so myself.

As I'm getting more experienced with my sewing, I'm also becoming a bit of a perfectionist and found myself really paying attention to the finest details- even down to swapping between red and white cotton as I sewed in the crayon pockets along the stripey fabric. What a geek!

I still haven't made my girls their own ones of these crayons rolls, even thought I promised to ages ago- I really must make them something for a change, rather than only crafting presents for their friends!

Hope everyone is well, it seems a bit quiet round 'blogland' of late. I've been super-busy recently and have a load of photos for future blogs stored up that I haven't got round to posting. Must catch up soon!

  1. Hey, your posts are like a snippett of my life too! Are you in my head? I made similar pencil rolls for charlies 4th party for his friends to take home. Such a great idea using this fabric... I used felt, a cheats way, no hemming! Be interested in what else you are making.... as I am slowing making friends with my sewing machine! x

Thank you so much for your lovely comments, I read and appreciate every single one. I would love to have time to reply individually to them all, but daily life always seems to scupper my plans x
