Last night I finally finished Flora's Princess Leia costume. I'm really pleased with how it turned out and Flora is bowled over!
I drafted the pattern for the dress myself- heeding Flaming Nora's helpful advice of lying Flora out on newspaper and drawing round her. The whole with was a huge learning curve, especially as I've only ever made one dress before, but it was surprisingly easy once I got going. I did make one silly mistake with my first attempt at the sleeves- I drew them out upside-down, so that the seams were at the top of the arm and only noticed when I was sewing them on- doh!
I also cheated with the neck a bit, buying a polar-neck tshirt to go underneath the dress to save me having to work out how to do a roll neck, although I did work out the hood myself.
I managed to keep the cost down by picking up everything except the polar-neck tee (ebay £2.99) in charity shops-
white sheet for dress £1.50
totes slipper socks for buns £1
silver belt £2
grand total £7.49!!
How funky is the belt? what a lucky find...
Pureists- all I ask is you overlook the Sith-coloured light sabre, Flora was very insistent in Toys R Us that red was the colour she must have!
I will admit to being a little jealous, as have always wanted to be Leia- I will have to restrain myself from making another outfit for myself!
Flora looks fab, you've done a brilliant job. She'll be asking for a Chubaka costume next - that'll test your sewing skills lol x
ReplyDeleteShe is sooooo cool! The boys at the party are not going to forget her! She looks amazing! Charley you are so clever. Okay so lets have a starwars party and we can (hopefully) look as awesome as Flora! I cant stop looking at her doing that amazing pose... x
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely amazing. Everything. The costume, the pose, the nice bit of sunflare on the last picture; I think you might be my new hero.
ReplyDeleteWay to go! How fab is that? Well done you! glad to have been of some help.
ReplyDeleteFantastic costume and I love the buns... that belt is fabulous... but did leia use a sabre? I thought only jedi used those surely leia had a blaster? lol only pulling your leg...
ReplyDeleteI asked Daniel what he wanted to dress up as for Halloween and he said "Stormtrooper" so I said.. oh don't you want ot be something spooky and monstery....? he said no... I want ot be Comander Cody! thank goodness he doens't want ot be an Ewok ! lol

Gosh thankyou for such lovely comments everyone- my daughter is a natural poser- I wish I had her confidence!
ReplyDeleteYes yes I know Leia shouldn't have a light sabre at all but I thought everyone else at the party will have one so she wouldn't want to miss out. Now I'm having second thoughts and am thinking that she will get lots of comments about it at a party full of Star-Wars mad little boys! Oh well!
Anyway, Leia is half Jedi, after all...
xx

ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment on my blogblack mail post on Tuesday. It's a weird situation but I got a lot of lovely support, so it's good to hear not everyone is a fruit loop.
There's a new giveaway on my blog at the moment, please do enter. The bag you can win is gorgeous.
Wow, this is great, I want!
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing, I bet she is so chuffed, even my boys think it's amazing and want one, and they usually run away at the sight of something "girlie"!

This turned out so great! You really captured the spirit of Princess Leia. I just really love those hair buns. That totally makes it!
ReplyDeleteWow what a mum! I think the best dress up that ever happened in my family was the tiger lily costume that was made for my sister out of a paper rubbish sack. You should definately make one for yourself.
ReplyDeletefabulous!!
